Principal

Lara brings an artistic eye and architectural expertise to every project. Trained in Toronto and Milan, she has over fifteen years of experience in design and construction management. She holds an undergraduate degree in architectural theory and fine art history from the University of Toronto, as well as a master’s degree in interior design from the Scuola Politecnica di Design. Her design style marries artful inspiration with fine, functional details intended to improve the way our clients live.

The kitchen-dining space in Project 06 started out as builder-basic🙃... but it definitely doesn’t feel that way anymore. We reworked the layout to make better use of the space, adding a built-in banquette that improves kitchen circulation, adds extra seating, and hides a ton of storage. We even integrated the new railing into the bench, so everything feels more connected. A few thoughtful changes made all the difference. Swipe to the last photo to see how it all came together 🫶🏼

A little behind-the-scenes from Project 25, which we shot last month📸 There are a few details in this space that felt especially rewarding to bring to life- like the recessed baseboards, the natural stone floor layout at the entry, the hidden mudroom door within the kitchen millwork, and the three-sided fireplace that subtly defines the main floor layout without closing it in. Tonal doesn't have to be one-note. The vertical wood grain throughout the primary bedroom at Project 21 guides the eye down to an *almost* undetectable ledge that adds dimension.

The infamous Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris reopened last December after five years of extensive renovation work. Built back in the 12th century, the cathedral was the pinnacle of French Gothic architecture, pioneering the rib vaulted ceiling and flying buttress masonry structure. Nearly 250 firms were enlisted to restore it back to its original state and modernize some operating mechanisms as well.

Our team will be in France next month, and we can’t wait to experience its enduring presence in-person!

One look at @hollisandmorris designer, Mischa Couvrette’s family home leaves me feeling as if I’ve just spent a weekend at a coastal retreat. Couvrette exhibits his refined eye, heavily leaning into Scandi design principals that masterfully juxtapose sleekness and comfortability. Much of the materiality feels like an extension of his own product line. Subtle metal details and fine black accents feel almost nautical; a nod to his days spent sailing Central America.

A few photos from EUR, just outside the centre of Rome from a few months ago.

The Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana feels like it doesn’t quite belong to the rest of the city- so much space around it, so much symmetry. From a distance, it almost looks fake. Like a theatre set dropped into the sky.

What struck me most was how still it felt. The facade reads almost like a cut-out sheet- flat, perfect- but somehow it still carries this incredible weight and depth. That balance between sharpness and solidity is kind of wild to achieve.

In Rome, buildings usually crowd you- tight streets, layers on layers- but here, you can actually take in the whole thing. Walk around it. Look up at it. Stand far back and see it in full. That kind of clarity is rare in this city.

It’s massive, minimal, and quietly dramatic. It's been Fendi's HQ for the past decade or so- but while some might see it as more sculpture than building, I think the best buildings are both. The ones you can work in, live in, and still feel something every time you look up.

Many of my friends and colleagues were just in Milan, and I feel like I’ve been living through them- through stories, their photos, the beautiful chaos that is Design Week. I wasn’t there this year, but the city still finds a way in.

Here are five projects that got me- each one a reminder of why this week always leaves a lasting impression.

1,2- LIBRARY OF LIGHT
A kinetic installation of 3,000 books orbiting a statue in the historic Pinacoteca di Brera. A contemporary structure layered into centuries-old architecture- so poetic. I imagine sitting here for hours.

5- TMAGAZINE PARTY
Inflatable sculptures—what artist Misha Kahn calls “rowdy balloons”—hovered above the pool, wrapped in Dedar fabrics. Totally irreverent against the Rationalist elegance of Villa Necchi. Playfulness and precision in perfect balance.

Slalom’s acoustic installation at Palazzo Bovara, curated by Patricia Urquiola, wraps the Herbarium restaurant in tactile felt made from recycled plastic and natural fibres—including petals and flowers from controlled biological corridors. A textural, immersive take on seasonal change, anchored by Portaluppi’s geometry.

Noto, Sicily—a town that I never leave out when sharing travel advice about this incredible island. Lately, several people have asked me for tips about visiting Sicily, and Noto is always at the top of my list. During the month I spent in Sicily back in 2022, we visited Noto twice, and for good reason. Perched at a higher altitude, this quaint town has an amazing way of catching the light, especially at sunset. The golden glow on its architecture is something I’ll never forget.

From the food to the people, the parks, and the effortless beauty of its streets, Noto captivated us completely. One highlight was visiting Caffè Sicilia (yes, as seen on Chef’s Table). Let me just say—it lives up to the hype. We tried basically everything on the menu, and it was all incredible.

What I love most about Noto is how special it feels. There’s so much to enjoy by simply being there. Walking the streets, eating gelato, and soaking in the charm of the town was enough to leave a lasting impression. If you're planning a trip to Sicily, make sure this magical place is on your list. Thank me later.

It’s been a while since I said hi on here- life’s just been full. The start of 2025 brought a wave of projects, the chaos of the terrible twos, a few rounds of sickness, and the slow countdown to baby number two. A lot, all at once.

But things are starting to settle. I’m feeling energized, hopeful, and really grateful for the space we’re in right now.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We’ve added a new team member (welcome, @jennmcnaghton !!!), taken on some exciting new work, and we’re growing. It’s a bit of a blur, but the kind that reminds you you’re exactly where you need to be (or at least that’s what I keep telling myself).

I don’t know what work/life will look like with a newborn in the mix in June- and I’m okay with that. What I do know is that I’m excited. For what’s ahead, for the warmer days coming, and for a bit of travel later this year.

It feels like 2020 all over again with all the relentless sickness going around—I’m one of them, and slowly coming out of it. It feels never-ending, so this morning, instead of dwelling on the polar vortex, I escaped into photos from my recent trip to Rome.

Villa Doria Pamphilj is a place I’d passed countless times but never visited—until now. Hidden behind unassuming walls, it opens up into one of the most incredible spaces I’ve seen in Rome✨. Walking through, I was in awe of the intricate floor transitions, the richly detailed frescoes, and the sheer scale of it all. To think that this was once someone’s home...

Originally built in the 17th century as a country retreat for the Pamphilj family, the villa was later expanded under Pope Innocent X, whose family transformed it into a Baroque masterpiece. The level of preservation is astounding—you step inside and feel transported.

Closed millwork keeps the area visually uncluttered, creating a calm and organized retreat.

Moments like these always make me pause. The elderly man sitting quietly in the shade, the group of friends sharing a bench and conversation, and the women walking hand in hand through the shallow ocean—all such simple, beautiful acts of living. And yes, I absolutely befriended one of the women here—Stella! These are my people.

It’s something I find so rare here in North America, where life feels busy, rushed, and hectic. There’s often this pressure to always do—to spend, achieve, or chase the next thing. But in these moments, there’s no urgency. No agenda. Just calm, connection, and an appreciation for the present.

It feels like they’ve lived their whole lives this way—peaceful, intentional, and rooted in community. This slower, more thoughtful rhythm is something I deeply admire about Italian culture and the European way of life. A beautiful reminder, especially at the beginning of the year, setting intentions—to savour the moment, appreciate slow living, and find joy in the simplest things.

With 2024 behind us, I’ve been reflecting on the pieces I’ve brought into my life last year that truly stand out. One piece rises to the top—not just for the year, but perhaps for the decade. This vase by Gaetano Pesce, the late Italian designer renowned for his experimental resin sculptures, is more than an object; it’s a piece of functional art that feels alive (and perfect to be around babies since it’s unbreakable!). Pesce’s work is full of character and vibrancy.

I found this one at @BonneChoice, one of my fave Toronto showrooms. Initially, I purchased a different vase online without seeing it in person. But when I arrived at the showroom to pick it up, this one immediately spoke to me. Its quirky shape, colours, and almost creature-like quality felt bold, a little weird, and deeply personal—everything art should be. That’s the beauty of Pesce’s work: each piece is unique and resonates differently with everyone.

Great design is about more than playing it safe. It’s about finding something that’s meaningful and will bring you joy for years to come. This vase is a constant reminder to embrace the things that make a space personal and full of life. I love my little guy.

This time last year, I had no idea where full time entrepreneurship would take me...

I began 2024 with uncertainty but also with a quiet confidence that this path was always meant for me. After years of waiting for the right moment, this year became the one where everything aligned, and it has been more fulfilling than I could have imagined.

This year has given me inspiring projects, meaningful client relationships, opportunities to travel, countless moments of growth- and most importantly, good time with my family. Even though these last few months have been v e r y rough (physically), 2024 has really has exceeded all expectations, and I’m so grateful for everything it has brought into my life.

As I look ahead to 2025, I’m focused on shaping a vision for what’s next—but first, I'm looking back at some of the highlights from this incredible year.

Living with anxiety is tough. Living with anxiety while traveling is even tougher. This past week in Italy, I experienced a severe panic attack, and I’ve been slowly coming down from heightened anxiety ever since. Anxiety isn’t just a mental challenge; it presents itself as physical pain, a constant reminder that it’s there, lurking beneath the surface.

I’m learning to accept that anxiety is a part of me—something that I’ll carry with me, but not something that will stop me from living fully and travelling. Accepting anxiety doesn’t mean giving in to it; it means acknowledging its presence and understanding that it’s part of who I am. It’s about finding ways to manage it, especially with the help of close friends and family, and learning to live alongside it rather than constantly battling against it.

I’m slowly realizing that I don’t need to escape from anxiety. Instead, I can pause, breathe, and take in the beauty around me, even when it feels hard to see. It’s a process, one that involves a lot of patience and self-compassion. There are moments when it feels like there’s no way out, but I remind myself that the goal isn’t to escape—it’s to coexist with anxiety in a way that allows me to keep moving forward.

I’m committed to working through it, to continuing to live my life, and to finding peace even in the midst of discomfort. This journey isn’t easy, but it’s mine, and I’m determined to make the most of it.

Ever wondered what it takes to create a dream ensuite? The answer is in meticulous planning and thoughtful execution. Here's an insight into the creation of our ensuite. Being my own home, I dedicated ample time to perfecting every detail. The search for terracotta at a reasonable price seemed impossible—until we discovered exactly what we needed, made in Italy, on FB Marketplace for a tiny fraction of the cost (win). Mike then painstakingly sealed each tile before installation in our living room :)

We reimagined the space, expanding the original bathroom to about three times its size. A skylight was integrated to introduce natural light, completely transforming the ambiance. And there was an unexpected benefit to this: the skylight now acts as a natural sound machine when it rains, adding a soothing element to the bedroom too. Every considered decision has culminated in a tranquil retreat that I now cherish—and affects all the senses. Designing a bathroom requires careful thought, but the results are profoundly rewarding. In search of references for a natural material subway tile floor for a current project, I came across this perfect summer home in Denmark by Norm Architects. This space embodies the essence of timeless design. When creating spaces that stand the test of time, integrating natural materials is essential. These materials not only age gracefully, developing a rich patina, but they also offer an unparalleled connection to the environment—a tactile beauty in natural elements that’s impossible to replicate.

The geometric pattern on the floor, combined with the soft tones of the materials and the gentle hills outside, creates a perfect balance. The simplicity of the design further enhances the sense of calm, making this vacation home a place I could live—permanently.
