Design never really goes in a straight line. When venting issues ruled out our original fireplace concept for #Project31, we pivoted—and landed on something even better.

Now developing a full-height custom, natural stone tiled surround using our fave @studio_antica to anchor the dining space.

Constraints can feel frustrating in the moment, but they often lead to sharper, more resolved ideas. Knowing how to pivot is part of the game. And honestly, I love the challenge.

Cladding the front face in tile, wood, or stone gives it presence. It’s a more involved detail—extra material, extra labour—but the result feels much more considered. At home, I used terracotta tile. Tucked just off the primary bedroom, Project 21’s office was designed as a quiet extension of the suite: minimal, focused, and calm.

More of an unconventional approach, the study was placed in the primary bedroom. The clients wanted it to feel and function like a hotel suite. Some might see it as blending work and rest too closely, but for them, it was about staying connected during long work nights. And with its framed view of the treetops out back, it feels more retreat than routine.

The millwork design supports two workstations without overwhelming the space- just enough surface for focus, wrapped in warmth.

When clients are hesitant about bold colour, I often suggest choosing one tone they love—and committing to it fully.

In a bedroom for Project 14, that colour was a soft egg blue. We wrapped the entire space in it: millwork, walls, trim in a true colour-drenching effect. The result is immersive but calm. Sometimes, the boldest move is simply consistency.

When viewed from the front door, the island reads as a solid block of natural stone. But as you move around it, the form shifts: the stone becomes unexpectedly light and thin—a subtle play on mass and proportion that reveals itself as you move around it.

Layered with curved millwork, integrated storage, and no visible hardware, every detail was considered to bring a sense of calm. These are the kinds of decisions that take time- but they shape how a space feels before it’s ever used 🤍

Today holds a lot 🤍 It’s Canada Day; a day I celebrate because of the choices all four of my grandparents made, leaving Italy to begin new lives here. It’s because of them that my life is here. It’s also the exact day we lost my Nonna, eight years ago. The timing has always felt a little ironic, but maybe also fitting. She shaped so much of who I am. My middle name is hers—Nancy—and now it’s part of my daughter Gaia’s name too. Thinking of her today❤️

Travel isn’t quite on the cards for us just yet, so I’ve been drifting back to memories of last summer in Sperlonga—a small Italian beach town in Lazio that surprised me in the best way.

Just steps from the sea, tucked into the rocky mountainside, we stumbled upon a natural spring that flowed cold and fast, even in the middle of that relentless August heat. We returned to it two, sometimes three times a day; quick plunges into icy water that left us breathless, reset, and strangely restored.

What began as a chance discovery quickly became ritual. A reminder that even the best-planned trips still hold space for the unexpected—for the things you don’t research in advance, but remember long after you return.

FILE FOR LATER / I've been thinking a lot about brown toned marble after selecting an offcut slab of Eramosa marble for Project 31's powder room. Eramosa is a Canadian stone, quarred right here in Ontario (!) With dark and light veining that differs depending on the cut, it's quite reminiscent of wood grain: natural, warm, and a little unexpected. Knowing how to work with a stone like this—where to find it, how to cut it, and how to make the most of an offcut—is where good design adds real value 🤍

Clean lines, clear vision🪄 The track light in Project21’s walk-in closet intentionally aligns perfectly with the window frame, creating a continuous visual flow that draws the eye and elevates the entire space. In a space where our client would be making decisions about what to wear and getting dressed, minimizing mind clutter was CRITICAL to the design.

While traveling’s on pause for us right now (newborn incoming), I’ve been thinking about one of the most special places we brought Nicolò last summer: Vasto. Yes- I am biased- it's my grandparents' home town. But it really is the most special.

It just works, especially with babies. Here’s why:
1- Memorable food. Every. Single. Meal.
2- A hotel right on the beach ( @hotelpresidentvasto ), with all meals included- felt structured, but still relaxed, which is ideal for babies.
3- Warm, welcoming staff- it felt like staying with family😉
4- A flat, walkable lungomare where kids can roam freely.
5- Beachfront rides, games, and evening dancing.
6- Long, shallow water at the beach, with gentle waves- again, perfect for babes.
7- Possibly the best gelato in Abruzzo: La Dolce Vita.

There’s a rhythm to Vasto that reminds me of good design: everything flows just as it should. We’ll *absolutely* be back. Hopefully annually.

Earlier this week, we stepped into a world of texture. Sourcing fabrics for a few projects, from window treatments and banquette seats to millwork panels. Plush velvets for depth, crisp linens for flow—all in durable weaves that can handle daily life. The right textiles bring feeling into a space; they shape how we move through it, how we live in it. A nice tactile, creative escape from the desk 🤌🏻

I discovered @palet.company at @studio_antica's showroom in Toronto last week and I just keep thinking about their ceramic tiles, colours, patterns... There’s something playful and unexpected about them. Almost pixelated in pattern, but refined and elegant. Their colour palettes are beautiful, the forms feel handcrafted, and the designs bring so much character. You can build your own using their patterns and selection of GORGEOUS colours (every combo seems to work).

Doing some morning reading and I came across this @ruemagazine feature- a 1938 Silver Lake home by @socialstudiesprojects, a study in bold, balanced use of natural stone. Richly veined marble, full of character, placed with precision.

Each surface feels sculptural without overpowering the architecture- and the light, the transitions, the restraint in the detailing… all beautifully considered. Bonus, they’re an all-female team! 👏🏻

Doing some morning reading and I came across this @ruemagazine feature- a 1938 Silver Lake home by @socialstudiesprojects, a study in bold, balanced use of natural stone. Richly veined marble, full of character, placed with precision.

Each surface feels sculptural without overpowering the architecture- and the light, the transitions, the restraint in the detailing… all beautifully considered. Bonus, they’re an all-female team! 👏🏻

The kitchen-dining space in Project 06 started out as builder-basic🙃... but it definitely doesn’t feel that way anymore. We reworked the layout to make better use of the space, adding a built-in banquette that improves kitchen circulation, adds extra seating, and hides a ton of storage. We even integrated the new railing into the bench, so everything feels more connected. A few thoughtful changes made all the difference. Swipe to the last photo to see how it all came together 🫶🏼

A little behind-the-scenes from Project 25, which we shot last month📸 There are a few details in this space that felt especially rewarding to bring to life- like the recessed baseboards, the natural stone floor layout at the entry, the hidden mudroom door within the kitchen millwork, and the three-sided fireplace that subtly defines the main floor layout without closing it in.
